Coach Fajri Ansari

A native of Queens, New York, Fajri Ansari relocated to Upstate New York in 1975 and completed his
Bachelors and Masters degree’s at the State Universities of Buffalo and Brockport 1979-80.

As Imam of Masjid Nu’Man, Fajri is a well-respected religious leader with strong ties to the community. His interfaith accomplishments include international and national dialogues, collaborations and educational events that focus on peacebuilding.

With a strong interest in education and sports, he served as the Head Basketball Coach at Turner Carroll High School and Assistant Basketball Coach for Hutchinson Technical High School, achieving countless victories, to include five New York State Catholic Association Class “C” Championships, a Class “B” New York State Federation Championship in 1998 and a Class “B” New York State Federation Championship in 1999, to name a few.

Following Fajri’s many successes as a high school basketball coach, he advanced to become the Head Basketball Coach at Buffalo State College. His strong leadership skills, motivational management style, and ability to inspire students athletically and educationally, steered the Buffalo State College Men’s Basketball team to the 2011 SUNYAC Division III Conference Champions and 2011 NCAA Division III Sweet 16. Fajri’s achievements presented him the opportunity to coach on an international level in France, Ukraine, Rwanda, Africa, and several other countries. Prior to becoming Head Basketball Coach at Buffalo State, Fajri served as Director of Admissions for the Educational Opportunity Program for over 20 years helping provide high school students throughout New York State with an opportunity to receive a college education.

He has a wife of more than 30 years, Dr. LaVonne Ansari, and three children, Tariq, Bashir and Naila. His gift to empower and motivate is incomparable and has rendered him a pillar of our community.
